And no this post is not about, Joel Osteen (the guy that's always smiling). I'll do a quick post on that guy some other time.
The Texas preaching that I am talking about is Fellowship Church, located in Texas. The place is friggin huge… everything's bigger in Texas, and that definately goes for Church's. They run roughly about 30,000 people every weekend spread out at four locations around the Dallas area. They have used technology to its fullest.
Fellowship is pastored by, Ed Young Jr. He is very different, but different in a good way. He uses alot of "rhymes" during his sermons. "Push back, jump in the kayak, and go Gabriel"… he preached here recently and that was the "catch phrase" that he used to get a point accross. He often makes up words… but they are very effective. It's also very hard to explain, you'll have to see it for yourself. But his speach isn't the first thing that grabs your attention, it's normally his selection of clothing. I'm going to be honest, he has a wierd style of clothes. Shirts that you couldn't pay me to wear. This past Sunday he wore lime green or puke green shoes, with black pants and a black shirt. I reckon he is trying to be "hip", cool and fashionable. I hope that the clothes that he wears are given to him, because if he pays for them, he may need a brain scan. But once you get past the rhymes and the clothes, he is a very good preacher. Very down to earth, practical and relavent. You can check out his latest message HERE.
If you wonder what NewSpring is like, Fellowship is a pretty close comparison. Fellowship is really our "Sister" church, we are basically modeled after "her".
